Dental Cleanings
It’s recommended that you get a dental cleaning every six months at our office no matter how old you are. Our hygienists use specialized tools that are aimed at getting plaque and tartar buildup that you may not be able to reach. These deep cleanings minimize the risk of tooth decay and periodontal disease. To learn more about in-office dental cleanings, see Dental Cleanings.
Dental Fillings
When tooth decay spreads in your tooth, it creates a cavity. Dental fillings are used to fill that cavity back in once the infected tissue has been removed. We offer dental fillings in a variety of different materials, but composite white fillings are ideal to blend in with the natural tooth. To learn more about the symptoms of a cavity that will require a filling, see Dental Fillings.

Root Canal
When an infection gets to the dental pulp and nerves inside a tooth, a root canal is required to take care of it. We remove the infected soft tissue and clean the inside of the tooth to make sure no further infection occurs. Despite its bad reputation, a root canal procedure will help you find relief from the painful infection inside your tooth. We often cap a tooth with a dental crown after the procedure. To learn more about the benefits of root canal therapy, see Root Canal.
Sedation Dentistry
Many patients suffer from dental anxiety or other issues that can make even dental cleanings difficult for them. Dental sedation allows them to remain calm and get the care they need. It’s also available for extensive, longer dental procedures. We offer oral conscious sedation and IV sedation options for you to choose from. To learn more about the benefits of dental sedation, see Sedation Dentistry.
Tooth Extraction
We aim to save your natural tooth whenever possible, but sometimes the best option is extraction. For impacted wisdom teeth, dental overcrowding, or severe damage or infection, extraction can be your best option. Extracting a tooth is a simple procedure that we can perform in one day using local anesthesia. We also sedation options for patients who suffer from dental anxiety. General Dental FAQs
If you would like to learn more about the general dental care we offer at Premier Dental Care, you may read these answers to these common patient questions:
When should I bring my child to their first dental visit?
We recommend that parents bring their children to our office after their first baby tooth has erupted. During this preliminary dental visit, we examine the smile and can give parents tips on how to maintain their child’s teeth and gums.
Can mouthguards treat TMJ?
Yes, you can use nightguards to treat TMJ disorders. However, we do not recommend sports mouthguards. Manufacturers make them from a different material. Sports mouthguards do not treat teeth clenching and grinding.
Custom-made nightguards prevent tooth damage and can also prevent chronic headaches and facial pain.
Do I need a dental crown after root canal treatment?
Sometimes, a dental filling isn’t enough for patients who have a particularly weakened or damaged tooth. We can reinforce a tooth with a dental crown to add strength and durability. Dental crowns also make it easier for patients to use their teeth to bite and chew.
How often should my dentist take dental x-rays?
Most dentists will want to take dental x-rays every one to two years. It will depend on your individual risk factors. We will evaluate your risk factors and make a recommendation based on your unique situation.
Dental x-rays can help detect problems that are not visible during an oral exam. These dental problems can include cavities, bone loss, and gum disease.
How long can dental fillings last?
The lifespan of a dental filling will depend on the material the dentist used, the size and location of the filling, and the patient’s oral hygiene habits. Dental fillings can last between 5 and 15 years, but some may last longer. Good oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups can help extend the lifespan of a filling.
How painful is a tooth filling?
Getting a tooth filling is typically not a painful experience. The dentist will usually numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
Most patients report only feeling pressure or sensation during the procedure. After the anesthetic wears off, you may feel minor soreness in the area. However, you can manage it with over-the-counter pain medication.
